I teach. Well, I coach. I coach people how to communicate. In English. I could probaby use a coach myself. Or at least an editor!
My touchstone ethic is to be as honest as possible. I think we're all too often ashamed of ourselves, so we hide, we don't share enough of our selves. I'm a very practical yet optimistic person: we're just not around long enough to waste time.
I skate a line between not caring about the superficial while also appreciating some of its better aesthetics. I try not to judge people, figuring that whatever you've lived through just makes you a richer person.
I don't believe in good and evil. My last (and actually first) word is to paraphrase the Buddhist: (with respect to the complex interaction of our intentions, actions, and resultant reactions) at each and every moment you have two and only two choices: to increase happiness or to increase suffering. You decide.
What I'm doing with my life:
I teach English as a second or other language to adults here in the old industrial heart of Germany -- the Ruhr area -- the most populous conurbation in Europe.
I'm really good at:
Communication. I'm a great friend in that I have a knack for listening and uncannily hearing what's left unsaid. I love languages, and my ideal holiday would be going abroad learning the local ways and means and jumping right in!
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me:
Typically it's my bright blue eyes. (It's the worst pickup line I get, as there's not much conversation to be launched from that one. "Um, thanks, good breeding, I guess?" I mean, what do you say?)
Then it's my deep, suprisingly authoratative voice. Again, it's also partly breeding thing, I think, but here I've got more input. I like hearing I have a pleasing voice. :)
My favorite books, movies, music, and foods are:
Book: always the one I'm currently reading, whatever it is, however good or bad it is. I'm very much a live-in-the-moment kinda person. That said, I recently finished "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy -- a fine, engulfing book.
Movies: include "Best in Show", "Waiting for Guffman", "Fight Club", "Pump Up the Volume", anything with Sean Penn, Reece Witherspoon or Nicole Kidman.
Music: Pop. Yes, I know. But I like it! And dance music, especially Techno. Yes, I know. But I like it!
TV: Battlestar Galactica, Grey's Anatomy, Dexter, Studio 60, et al.
Foods: Everything and anything fresh. Love spicey. Love ethnic.
The SIX things I could never do without:
Love. Communication. Struggle. Progress. My neti pot. My brain.
